APC Welcomes Aspirants for 2027 Presidential Ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that any member wishing to contest for the presidential ticket in the 2027 elections is welcome, despite the party's current endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term. This statement was made by Chidi Duru, the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the APC, during an interview with Punch.

Duru indicated that the party is leaning towards a consensus approach but remains open to aspirants who wish to test their popularity in line with democratic norms. He acknowledged that incumbents typically enjoy advantages when seeking re-election, particularly within party structures.

Duru emphasized the principle of first refusal for incumbents while also noting that political parties need to field candidates that align with their ideologies and manifestos. He further dismissed concerns that an automatic ticket for incumbents might trigger internal discontent, citing constitutional provisions that support the second term bid.
