Political Candidates Sign Peace Accord for 2027 Elections

On the occasion of the signing of a peace accord for the 2027 general elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, representing the All Progressives Congress, was present through Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the Presidential Candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, was represented by Vice Presidential candidate Lawal Daura.

Notably, Atiku Abubakar was absent from the event, and attempts to obtain a reason for his absence from his media adviser, Paul Ibe, were unsuccessful. The National Peace Committee, in partnership with the Kukah Centre, organized the ceremony to promote peaceful campaigns and respect for electoral institutions.

NPC Chairman General Abdusalami Abubakar urged political actors to avoid toxic campaign atmospheres that could incite violence. He emphasized the importance of issue-based campaigns and the need for candidates to focus on manifestoes.

INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan described the accord as vital for maintaining electoral integrity.
