Atiku Abubakar Skips Peace Accord Signing in Protest

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), deliberately skipped the signing of the National Peace Accord as a protest against what the party views as a weak and ineffective peace process leading up to the 2027 general elections. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's National Publicity Secretary, stated that the boycott was a calculated decision rather than an oversight.

He criticized the signing of the accord as becoming a mere ritual, noting ongoing political violence despite repeated commitments from political actors. Abdullahi specifically referenced the recent governorship election, accusing the National Peace Committee of remaining silent on comments made by Senator Francis Fadahunsi that could incite violence.

He also pointed out that the committee failed to caution President Tinubu regarding remarks attributed to him during the Osun election period. Abdullahi clarified that the ADC's stance is not against peaceful elections but demands that the committee enforce commitments made by candidates.
