Adebayo Criticizes Tinubu's Absence at Peace Accord Signing

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), criticized President Bola Tinubu for not attending the signing of the National Peace Accord in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections. Adebayo stated that Tinubu's absence undermined the peace accord's purpose, suggesting it sent a negative signal regarding political leaders' commitment to peaceful elections.

He emphasized that political leaders should personally show their commitment to agreements promoting peaceful elections instead of relying on representatives. The National Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, stated that the accord commits political parties and candidates to issue-based campaigns, respect for opposing views, and the rejection of hate speech and violence.

Adebayo warned that political violence and intimidation could jeopardize the credibility of the upcoming elections, stressing the importance of demonstrating commitment to peaceful and credible elections throughout the electoral process.
