Babachir Lawal Reveals Atiku's VP Offer to Peter Obi

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, disclosed that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, tasked him with persuading Peter Obi, the flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, to accept the vice-presidential position for the 2027 presidential election. During an interview on Diaspora Digital Media, Lawal recounted that Atiku proposed a collaborative four-year presidency, followed by a constitutional amendment to establish a single six-year presidential term.

Lawal described his efforts to meet Obi, noting that it was raining on the day of their meeting, and despite his insistence, Obi expressed his disapproval of the idea. Lawal stated, “Peter didn’t even want me to come because it was raining that day,” indicating Obi's reluctance to consider the proposal.
