Atiku's Lawsuit Against Tinubu Criticized by Lawyer

Activist lawyer Maduabuchi Idam has commented on the legal action taken by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, against President Bola Tinubu regarding discrepancies in the names on Tinubu's form submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Atiku Abubakar is seeking to disqualify Tinubu from participating in the 2027 election.

Idam described the lawsuit as an “action that is dead on arrival,” indicating that the judicial system in Nigeria lacks the courage to ensure justice in such matters. He noted that the sentiment among Tinubu's supporters reflects a broader concern about the judicial system's integrity.

Idam asserted that regardless of the outcome of the legal action, it would expose the weaknesses of Nigeria's institutions and highlight the dangers of a system where citizens lose faith in impartial law enforcement. He warned that without fundamental institutional reforms, Nigeria may struggle to maintain a viable system beyond 2031.
