Wike: Atiku Faces Southern Challenges if Tinubu Struggles

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), indicated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would encounter difficulties in the southern region if President Bola Tinubu faces challenges in the North as the 2027 presidential election approaches. Wike made these comments during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, recalling the strategy employed by the G5 governors during the 2023 presidential election.

He stated, “If Tinubu has problem in the North, Atiku will have in the South,” emphasizing that the G5 governors recognized Atiku as the primary contender against Tinubu and intentionally worked to diminish his prospects in the South. Wike also dismissed the notion of Peter Obi, the candidate from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), being widely popular, arguing that while Obi may receive vocal support, it does not equate to substantial electoral backing.
