2027: Concern over inmates voting as experts, stakeholders fear election manipulation

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, recently announced plans to allow inmates to vote in the 2027 general election. Yakubu confirmed the decision after meeting with the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, in Abuja. INEC and NCoS are discussing the implementation details, including voting facility access and addressing political party concerns.

While some experts, like Barrister Zurkallaini Sani Tsanyawa and Professor Kamilu Sani Fagge, support the decision, others worry about the possibility of rigging. They emphasize the need for strict measures to prevent abuse of the system by corrupt politicians.
