Court Dismisses Amaechi's Suit Against Atiku's Candidacy

On Friday, the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out a suit filed by former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi against Atiku Abubakar's candidacy for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 presidential elections. The ruling was made by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik after Amaechi's counsel, Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, applied to withdraw the case.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1215/2026, was initiated shortly after Abubakar emerged as the ADC's presidential candidate following a primary election held on May 25, which Amaechi claimed breached the Electoral Act 2026 and ADC's constitution. Amaechi sought eleven reliefs, including an order to restrain Abubakar from presenting himself as a candidate.

The court noted that the application for discontinuation was due to a settlement between the parties involved.
