Minister Urges Clerics to Avoid Religious War Narratives

On Wednesday, during the grand finale of the 2026 Synod of the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria and the International Communion of Charismatic Archbishops, Bishops and Apostles at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, urged religious leaders to refrain from portraying Nigeria's security challenges as a religious war. He warned that such narratives could threaten national unity as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

Idris called on Christian leaders to promote truth, peace, responsible citizenship, and tolerance, asserting that no Nigerian should face discrimination based on their faith. He reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to safeguarding the constitutional rights of Nigerians to practice their religion freely.

Idris noted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, there have been improvements in intelligence gathering, inter-agency cooperation, and military operations against terrorism and criminal networks, alongside strengthened international partnerships.
