Lagos CP Fatai Tijani Warns Youths Against Political Violence

On August 27, 2023, during the inauguration of the National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery in Ikeja, Lagos, Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani cautioned youths against being manipulated by politicians for violent acts ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized the need for young Nigerians to safeguard their future by rejecting political and digital thuggery.

Tijani noted that the theme of the 2026 International Youth Day, “Different Contexts, Same Aspirations,” resonates with the aspirations of Nigerian youths for peace, security, education, and economic opportunities. He stated that while youths have the right to support political parties and express opinions, they must do so responsibly and legally.

Tijani warned against accepting inducements for violent actions, asserting that temporary benefits cannot outweigh the long-term consequences of such behavior. He also raised concerns about the misuse of social media for political intimidation and urged youths to use these platforms positively.
