Lagos Police Warns Youths Against Political Thuggery

On Thursday, CP Tijani Fatai, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, warned Nigerian youths against being recruited by politicians for political violence and digital thuggery in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. This warning was issued during a Police-Youth Dialogue in Lagos, organized to commemorate International Youth Day 2026 and launch the National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery.

Fatai cautioned that youths could be lured with money to engage in activities such as spreading misinformation, vandalizing property, and disrupting public peace, only to be abandoned by their sponsors afterward. He expressed concern over the misuse of social media for political intimidation and urged youths to verify information before sharing it.

Fatai emphasized that while young Nigerians have the right to support political candidates, they must not resort to violence or intimidation. He also called on transport unions to prevent their members from being involved in electoral thuggery and urged community leaders to protect youths from manipulation and misinformation.
