Oba Matemilola Urges Nigerians to Reject Vote-Buying

Oba Saka Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, addressed journalists during his 4th coronation anniversary, urging Nigerians to resist the temptation of vote-buying in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He warned that accepting N5,000 or N10,000 in exchange for votes equates to selling their conscience and jeopardizing their children's future.

The monarch emphasized that traditional rulers have a primary responsibility for the well-being of their communities, which includes education, health, and economic development. He criticized the constitutional neglect of traditional rulers' roles but insisted that they must still work to ensure that responsible leaders are elected.

Oba Matemilola called on royal fathers to mobilize their subjects to obtain Permanent Voter Cards and to vote wisely, advising them to choose leaders with integrity. He reiterated the importance of remaining non-partisan while guiding their communities towards making informed electoral choices.
