Opposition Parties Plan August 31 Summit for 2027 Election

Six Nigerian opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), are set to convene a summit on August 31, 2026, at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, announced this development on behalf of the G100.

The summit's primary objective is to create a formal structure for negotiating cooperation ahead of the 2027 general election. It will not select a presidential candidate or finalize an opposition alliance structure at this initial meeting.

The discussions will be based on a shared briefing titled “A Framework for Opposition Cooperation and Coordination,” which acknowledges the distinct identities and interests of the parties. The summit will include national chairmen, party leaders, and other stakeholders, with proposals for creating specialized working groups to formalize cooperation.
