David Umahi Sets Conditions for Opposition Campaigns in Ebonyi

On September 26, 2026, during an inspection of the Calabar-Abuja Superhighway in Benue State, Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, stated conditions for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties to campaign in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Umahi, who is aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissed the notion of forming a "rainbow coalition" with other political interests, particularly in relation to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

He criticized the PDP for failing to serve the Southeast adequately, stating, “We supported PDP... and when it was our time for them to honour us, they did not honour us.” Umahi asserted that political opponents could campaign in Ebonyi but must do so peacefully and without inciting violence. He also addressed his son’s nomination as Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area by Governor Francis Nwifuru, clarifying that it was the governor's decision and urging his son to ensure equitable development across all council wards.
