Okechukwu Critiques Atiku's Fuel Subsidy Position

Osita Okechukwu, a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), criticized former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for his recent position advocating for the retention of fuel subsidy. In a statement made on Sunday in Enugu, Okechukwu described Atiku's stance as a desperate attempt to win the 2027 presidential election, labeling it "medicine after death." He argued that bad economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy, have led to severe consequences for Nigerians, such as rising unemployment, increased poverty, and worsening insecurity.

Okechukwu pointed out that Atiku had previously supported the removal of fuel subsidy alongside President Bola Tinubu in 2022 and questioned the inconsistency in Atiku's current position. He characterized Atiku's promise to retain the subsidy as opportunistic and politically desperate, aimed at exploiting the current hardships faced by Nigerians.
