F1 Agrees to Engine Design Change for 2027 Season

On Friday, Formula 1 bosses reached a unanimous agreement to change the engine design for the 2027 season in response to criticism regarding the new power unit introduced earlier this year. Drivers had expressed concerns about the near 50-50 split between internal combustion and electric power, which necessitated energy management techniques that affected their ability to drive effectively, particularly during qualifying sessions.

The agreement, made during a meeting with teams and commercial rights holders, stipulates that the total power from internal combustion engines will increase to 50 kW (67 bhp), while the amount of power derived from electric sources will be reduced. This change aims to enhance the driving experience by allowing drivers to recover energy without significant speed loss during cornering and fast curves.
