Okechukwu Urges INEC to Ensure Free and Fair Elections

On Sunday, Osita Okechukwu, the former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria and a foundational member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called on Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to focus on ensuring free, fair, and credible elections. Okechukwu's remarks followed Amupitan's call for political parties to adhere to internal democracy principles during a courtesy visit to former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, Niger State.

Okechukwu noted that credible elections are essential for political parties to respect democratic principles and the electorate's will. He dismissed claims that INEC operates as a "hand-gun" in ensuring fair elections, asserting that the APC requires credible elections for legitimacy and the growth of Nigeria's democracy.

He emphasized that credible elections would strengthen Nigeria's democratic institutions and political parties.
