Coalition Demands Christian Governor for Kwara in 2027

The Aegi Coalition has intensified its advocacy for a Christian governor in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections. During a press conference in Ilorin, spokesperson Rev.

Dr. Jonathan Adegboy urged political actors to prioritize inclusivity and fairness in the state's leadership structure.

The coalition argues that Kwara's diverse population, which includes Yoruba, Nupe, Baruba, Fulani, Igbo, Hausa, Christians, and Muslims, should be adequately reflected in its political leadership. They warned that continued political imbalance could undermine the state's long-standing peace and coexistence.

The coalition highlighted that Kwara has had six Muslim civilian governors since its creation in 1983, with the first being Christian Chief C.O. Adebayo.

They demand equal representation and fair political office distribution for Christians, stressing that the political landscape should mirror the demographic composition of the state. The coalition expresses a preference for candidates from the Kwara South senatorial district, citing its significant Christian population.
