Rising Political Violence in Ebonyi State Ahead of 2027

As political activities intensify in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections, there is a concerning rise in political violence, including attacks on party supporters and journalists. A recent incident in Ezza South Local Government Area involved Mrs. Blessing Ngwuta, who alleged she lost her four-month pregnancy after being attacked by suspected political thugs at her husband Chief Christopher Ngwuta's residence.

This incident followed an attack on 10 PDP members during a gathering in Ikwuator Idembia, which was disrupted by assailants who later traced the participants to a private residence. Journalists from the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) covering the event also faced attacks, with reports of their vehicles being targeted.

The PDP has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being behind these violent acts, while APC's State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, denied the allegations, asserting that Governor Francis Nwifuru does not condone political violence. The situation raises significant concerns about the safety of political participation in the state.
