Kwara APC Faces Internal Crisis Ahead of 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State is facing significant internal strife as divisions deepen following the conclusion of its primaries for the 2027 elections. The primaries produced various candidates, including Rt Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the party's governorship candidate.

However, several party leaders and governorship aspirants have rejected the outcomes, alleging marginalization and lack of consultation in the candidate selection process. State APC chairman Princ Sundai Fagbemi has dismissed these allegations, urging members to embrace sportsmanship.

Despite this, factions within the party have organized protests in Ilorin, demanding greater inclusivity and transparency. Former governorship aspirant Sadiq Umar stated that the grievances extend beyond the governorship contest, criticizing the process as unfair.

Senator Saliu Mustapha warned that unless urgent action is taken, the APC risks losing Kwara State in the upcoming elections. The party is seeking royal blessings from Dr Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin, to consolidate support ahead of the elections.
