APC Divisions Emerge Ahead of Kwara 2027 Governorship Race

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State is facing significant internal divisions as it gears up for the 2027 governorship election. The party is reportedly split into factions, notably the G15 bloc aligned with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, which is pushing for the establishment of a reconciliation committee led by Colonel Abdulwahab Ademola Lawal.

This committee aims to restore peace and unity within the party. There is a growing consensus that the next gubernatorial candidate should emerge from Kwara North, addressing longstanding grievances regarding political marginalization.

The argument for a Christian candidate is gaining traction, as the last Christian governor, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, served before a military intervention in December 1983. The APC leadership, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is urged to listen to stakeholders' grievances to rebuild party unity and ensure equitable representation across religious lines.
