FCT Council Chairman Threatens Residents to Vote APC

Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, the chairman of Kuje area council, was recorded in a video stating that residents must either support the All Progressives Congress (APC) or leave the area council. He justified his stance by referencing development projects initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Amnesty International, through its country director Isa Sanusi, condemned Shekwolo's remarks as a threat to residents' freedom of association and urged security agencies to investigate the situation. Sanusi emphasized that no Nigerian should be coerced into supporting a political party to reside in a community.

Political analyst Associate Professor Babayo Sule from the University of Namibia described Shekwolo's comments as a serious threat to constitutional rights, particularly regarding freedom of movement and political participation, citing Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution. Sule characterized the chairman's statements as unfortunate and disastrous, highlighting the legal implications of such threats.
