ActionAid Nigeria Condemns Kuje Chairman's Remarks

ActionAid Nigeria condemned remarks made by Kuje Area Council Chairman Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, stating that residents must support the All Progressives Congress (APC) or leave the council. Dr Andrew Mamedu, the Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, described these comments as disturbing and incompatible with democratic governance, emphasizing that the Area Council belongs to the people, not a political party.

Mamedu warned against using public office for political intimidation and stressed the responsibility of elected officials to serve all residents, regardless of political affiliation. He expressed concern that such remarks could normalize a culture of political intimidation in Nigeria, especially with the upcoming 2027 general elections.

ActionAid Nigeria also referenced a recent incident involving Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who faced questioning by the Nigeria Police over allegedly threatening remarks against opposition members. The organization called for investigations into Shekwolo's statements, highlighting constitutional protections for citizens' political choices.
