Court Action Against Kuje Council Chairman Over Threats

A lawsuit has been filed against Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, the Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly instructing residents to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or vacate the area. The case, marked FCT/HC/CV/3984/2026, was initiated by Chronicles Reporters News Limited and Paul Bem Mannaseh, a member of the African Action Congress and Kuje resident.

The applicants claim this directive infringes on their fundamental rights to freedom of expression, association, and movement, as well as protection from discrimination. They reference a video where Shekwolo reportedly stated, “I have said in my area council that it’s either you are for the APC or you leave the area council.” The applicants seek a court declaration that Shekwolo's statement is unconstitutional, a perpetual injunction against discriminatory actions, N100 million in damages, and a public apology from Shekwolo.

They also request an investigation by security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission regarding potential electoral offenses.
