Mark Urges Credibility in 2027 Elections Amid Concerns

David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), issued a warning against the manipulation of the 2027 general elections through state institutions, asserting that the credibility of the polls must be "non-negotiable." Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI), Mark stressed the importance of a transparent, inclusive, and peaceful electoral process free from intimidation and violence. He expressed concern over the abuse of the electoral process by both government and non-state actors, referencing the violence during the recent Osun State governorship election, which resulted in the deaths of at least 30 individuals.

Mark condemned such practices as detrimental to democratic governance and public confidence in elections. He reiterated the ADC's commitment to ensuring that every vote counts and that mandates given by the electorate are respected.

The IRI delegation, led by African Regional Director Jenai Cox, is in Nigeria to assess preparations for the upcoming elections.
