NDC Zones Presidency to South for 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned the presidency to the South for a four-year single term, concluding in 2031. This decision was made during a party convention held in Abuja, where the motion was adopted without dissent by delegates, including Afam Victor Ogen from Anambra's Ogbaru Federal Constituency.

The NDC's zoning formula aims to ensure that power does not return to the North until at least 2031, amidst concerns that the North is not prepared to regain the presidency. The resolution comes in the context of the upcoming presidential elections, with Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the current president and Peter Obi, a prominent candidate from the Labour Party (LP), seen as a significant contender for the NDC ticket.
