PDP Alleges Plot by Ebonyi Governor to Undermine Opposition

The Ebonyi State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Francis Nwifuru of attempting to weaken the opposition in the state as part of a broader strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party claims that the state government plans to revoke the certificate that allows the PDP to occupy its secretariat located in Abakaliki.

This development is viewed as part of a wider effort to suppress opposition voices in the political landscape of Ebonyi State. The PDP's statement, issued on Monday and signed by state chairman Chukwuma Igwe, state secretary Henri Ngonu, and public secretary Princ Darlington Onw, highlights that the situation escalated when PDP members were reportedly chased away from the secretariat as preparations for party primaries were underway.

The PDP has called for urgent intervention from President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent what they describe as a dangerous political situation in the state.
