Adebayo Critiques 2027 Peace Accord as Meaningless

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressed his concerns regarding the National Peace Accord signed ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, Adebayo stated that the accord is meaningless without justice, accountability, and adherence to democratic principles.

He highlighted that previous agreements had been violated without consequences, questioning the sincerity of political actors. Adebayo accused the government of undermining democracy and intimidating opposition politicians, asserting that electoral peace could be achieved if the government fulfilled its constitutional responsibilities.

He attended the signing ceremony out of obligation but remained skeptical about its effectiveness in preventing electoral violence. Adebayo also criticized the recent Osun State governorship election, citing fatalities and excessive police presence as indicators of electoral issues, arguing that true improvement cannot be claimed in such circumstances.
