Nwabueze Urges Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections in Nigeria

Ikechukwu Nwabueze, the Executive Director of the Orlu Progressive Initiative (OPI), cautioned political candidates and their supporters against violating the peace accord signed for the 2027 general elections during a media chat in Owerri on Wednesday. He urged all political actors to uphold peace, non-violence, and responsible political conduct, stating that adherence to the accord is crucial for credible and violence-free elections in Nigeria.

Nwabueze advised candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than engaging in calumny and name-calling. He also warned against using youths as political thugs for electoral crimes, urging them to resist any offers to engage in violence.

Additionally, he appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct credible, free, and fair elections, maintaining neutrality as required by electoral law. Nwabueze rated INEC's performance in the recent Osun Governorship election at 60%, acknowledging its success while calling for further improvements.
