Presidency's Onanuga Labels Atiku a Political Chameleon

Bayo Onanuga, serving as the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, referred to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as a "political chameleon." This remark was made following Dangote Refinery's warning that alterations to government fuel price controls and the reintroduction of subsidies could negatively impact its refining margins and the broader Nigerian economy. Onanuga posted on X, asserting that such changes would not only jeopardize Dangote Refinery but also lead to economic ruin for Nigeria.

He reminded Atiku that his proposed production subsidy had previously failed during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, stating that Obasanjo had mandated the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to pay the full international price for crude oil used in refining. Onanuga's comments reflect ongoing political tensions and economic concerns regarding fuel pricing in Nigeria.
