Transport Minister Alkali Jibril Resigns for 2027 Gombe Race

On Tuesday, Transport Minister Alkali Jibril announced his resignation to contest in the 2027 governorship elections in Gombe State. This decision aligns with a directive from the presidency requiring political appointees seeking elective office to step down.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu accepted Jibril's resignation, expressing gratitude for his dedicated service to the nation. Alkali's resignation comes shortly after Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar stepped down on Monday to pursue his political ambitions in Bauchi State.

Tuggar previously contested in the APC governorship primaries in 2015 and has maintained a visible political presence through grassroots engagement and humanitarian efforts via his foundation. Additionally, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Alleviation, and Disaster Management, Dr.

Yusuf Sununu, resigned to contest for a senatorial seat in Kebbi State. Sununu has been in office since November 2024.

Furthermore, Nasiru Gawuna resigned from his position to defect to the African Democratic Congress, having previously been a governorship candidate for the APC in Kano.
