APC Forms Campaign Council as Opposition Delays Launch

As the 2027 presidential election approaches, several opposition candidates, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Omoyele Sowore, have yet to finalize their campaign launch dates or council structures. In contrast, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has swiftly established a 223-member presidential campaign council, headed by former Governor Abdulaziz Yari.

Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, stated that details regarding the former vice-president's campaign council and launch date would be announced at the appropriate time, as consultations are ongoing. Atiku's immediate focus includes engaging with Nigerians on policy matters, particularly a production-linked fuel subsidy.

The National Democratic Congress, with its presidential candidate yet to finalize campaign details, plans an internal meeting next weekend. The Labour Party's candidate, Dr Chibuzor Okereke, indicated that the campaign launch date would be determined by the strategy team.

Additionally, Rabiu Kwankwaso raised concerns about the APC campaign council's composition, questioning the involvement of public officials in partisan roles.
