APC Mediates to Halt Impeachment of Ondo Assembly Speaker

The impeachment proceedings against Honourable Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, have been temporarily stalled as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intervenes to mediate the ongoing crisis. This development followed a meeting last Friday between APC leadership and the lawmakers involved, where the party urged both sides to maintain the status quo while mediation efforts are underway.

The APC is concerned about the implications of escalating tensions, especially with the 2027 elections approaching. Allegations against Oladiji include financial misconduct related to a N44 million transaction concerning the reordering of the 2026 budget of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

Despite the impeachment notice being signed by 21 of the 26 lawmakers, later increasing to 24, Oladiji has denied the allegations, claiming they are politically motivated. The APC's intervention aims to prevent further confrontation while addressing the grievances raised by the lawmakers.
