PDP Faction Meets Jonathan, Nominates Him for 2027 Election

On Friday, the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened in Abuja to meet with former President Goodluck Jonathan regarding the upcoming 2027 general election. During this meeting, the faction announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate, although he was not present to accept the nomination.

His nomination papers were submitted by Job Fred Agbaje, a member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State. Despite the formal ratification, Jonathan has not publicly declared his intention to run for the presidency.

The meeting's details remain unclear, but there is speculation that it relates to the political landscape ahead of the elections. Turaki addressed the party's current leadership crisis, asserting that the PDP has faced and overcome more severe challenges in the past.

He referenced a Federal High Court ruling from July 17, which dismissed a suit aimed at compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Turaki-led interim National Working Committee of the PDP, highlighting the factional divisions within the party.
