APC Allows Aspirants to Contest Against Tinubu in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it will not obstruct any of its members from running for the presidential ticket in the 2027 elections, despite the party's backing of current President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid. Chidi Duru, the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the APC, emphasized that the party remains open to internal competition, reflecting its democratic principles.

While the party may prefer a consensus candidate, it cannot prevent members from expressing their interest in the presidential ticket. Duru noted that incumbents typically enjoy certain advantages, especially when party members are satisfied with their performance in office.

He also highlighted the importance of political parties ensuring that they offer candidates who can deliver on their mandates, as failure to do so could result in electoral losses. The APC is preparing for its national convention scheduled for March 27-28, 2026, where these issues may be further discussed.
