Wike Would Reject Tinubu's Campaign DG Role for Rivers

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, explained that he would have rejected the role of Director-General for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign if offered, as it could jeopardize his political influence in Rivers State. Speaking on Saturday after inspecting road constructions in Abuja, Wike asserted that political relevance should be measured by one's ability to secure electoral victories in their state rather than by the position held in a campaign organization.

He cited examples of past campaign directors-general, such as Rotimi Amaechi and Bukola Saraki, who lost their respective states despite their roles. Wike expressed his unwillingness to take such risks, emphasizing his priority to ensure victory for Tinubu in both the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.

He clarified that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress, thus making his involvement in their Presidential Campaign Council irrelevant. However, he reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s re-election through a political arrangement called the “Rainbow Coalition,” which includes politicians from various parties.
