Wike Explains Why He Declined Tinubu's Campaign Role

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stated that he was not appointed as the Director General of President Bola Tinubu's 2027 presidential campaign council due to his membership status outside the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his desire to maintain political influence in Rivers State. Wike made these comments on Saturday after inspecting construction work on the Apo-Karshi and Kubwa-Bwari roads in Abuja.

He noted that the APC Presidential Campaign Council had appointed former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as the Director General. Wike expressed concerns about the potential distraction from his responsibilities in Rivers State and the FCT, recalling instances where previous campaign directors lost their home states despite leading national campaigns.

He emphasized the importance of winning in his states and stated, “I don’t want to lose my state! I will be in my state.” Wike also mentioned that he was not a member of the APC and had previously worked on strategies to support Tinubu's presidency without being part of the APC campaign council.
