PDP Faces Exclusion from 2027 Elections After Court Ruling

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) may not appear on the ballot for the 2027 elections due to a court ruling that upheld the suspension of its leadership, specifically the faction led by Tanimu Kabiru Turaki. Justice Jame Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled against the PDP's appeal, which sought to challenge the suspension of its National Working Committee (NWC) members, including Samuel Anyanwu.

The court's decision restricts the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcomes of the PDP's planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. The party has until May 30, 2026, to finalize its candidate selection process, but internal divisions complicate this timeline.

The faction aligned with Nyesom Wike intends to proceed with its convention on March 28, despite the court ruling. PDP leadership, represented by Ememobong, has vowed to appeal to the Supreme Court, emphasizing the need for unity and operational stability within the party.
