Wike's Aide Questions Viability of 2027 Presidential Candidates

Lere Olayinka, the media aide to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, expressed skepticism about the prospects of several presidential candidates for the 2027 election during an interview on Arise News. He stated that the presence of 19 candidates does not equate to 19 serious contenders, arguing that many are merely seeking to establish their presence rather than genuinely contesting to win.

Olayinka emphasized that success in the presidential race would depend on candidates' abilities to build political structures across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He specifically criticized Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC) and Peter Obi of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), pointing out that the NDC lacks governorship candidates in 15 states and has not participated in recent governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun.

Olayinka concluded that candidates cannot rely solely on media visibility and criticism to build a winning coalition.
