Tragic Deaths of Three Children at Anambra Shrine

On August 5, 2026, three children were confirmed dead, and another was critically injured at an alleged Ezenwanyi shrine located in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, within the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The Anambra State Police Command reported that police operatives from the Ogidi Police Division responded promptly to the incident.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the four victims were transported to a hospital for emergency treatment, where medical professionals declared three of the children deceased, while the fourth child remains in critical condition. A woman has been arrested in connection with the incident, and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The deceased children's bodies have been placed in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The police have expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the Ideani community, urging residents to refrain from spreading unverified information during the investigation.
