Three Women Arrested for Child Trafficking in Anambra
On Saturday, the Anambra State Police Command arrested three women for their involvement in child trafficking during an operation at a motor park in Onitsha. The suspects, identified as Florence Nnakuzi (45), Hannah Ugah (52), and Chinasa Daniel (27), were apprehended following preliminary investigations led by Tochukwu Ikenga, the police public relations officer.
Chinasa Daniel allegedly brought a two-week-old baby and a four-year-old child to Hannah Ugah on separate occasions between June and December 2025. Further investigations revealed that the four-year-old child was subsequently handed over to Florence Nnakuzi, who allegedly sold the child for 2 million naira.
The two-week-old baby was also alleged to have been sold to a woman for a significant amount. Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioy Orutugu, described child trafficking as a grave violation of human rights and directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a comprehensive investigation.
