33 Nigerians Killed in Electricity Mishaps: NERC Report Reveals Safety Failures

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reported that 33 people lost their lives and 33 sustained injuries in 57 power-related accidents across Nigeria in Q3 2025. The accidents were spread across various distribution zones, with Ikeja and Kano recording the highest number of incidents.

The fatalities and injuries were mainly attributed to system weaknesses, poor maintenance, and unsafe practices. The report underscores the nationwide problem of unsafe electrical infrastructure despite regulatory efforts.
