Bandits in Military Uniform Kill Four in Sokoto Attack

On Sunday night, a bandit attack in Sokoto resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including Bilyaminu Wakkala and Danbaki Tulunawa. The assault began around 8 p.m. and lasted until 2 a.m. on Monday, during which approximately 200 heavily armed assailants, disguised in military uniforms, looted homes and shops and rustled livestock.

Residents initially mistook the attackers for security personnel, as they surrounded the village and opened fire on anyone attempting to escape. The attack occurred shortly after military troops had responded to a separate incident earlier in the day, where a farmer was killed.

The military had left the village just minutes before the bandits struck. Local residents reported that the attackers entered through alternative routes to avoid a military checkpoint and positioned armed men with RPGs strategically.

Efforts to obtain official comments from local government officials and the Sokoto State Police Command were unsuccessful, although DSP Ahmad Rufa’i confirmed the earlier killing of a farmer.
