Bandits Attack Five Communities in Sokoto, Injuring Residents

On Tuesday, suspected bandits invaded five communities in the Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, injuring several residents and rustling a large number of livestock. The affected communities—Kaura, Wanke, Sage, Marake, and Aggur—were attacked in the early hours, with assailants firing sporadically, causing residents to flee into nearby bushes.

At least two residents sustained gunshot injuries to their legs, and others suffered varying degrees of injuries during the raid. The injured were evacuated to the General Hospital in Shagari for treatment.

A resident described the attack as a devastating setback, emphasizing that livestock is crucial for many families' livelihoods. The incident has raised concerns over persistent insecurity in Sokoto State, where rural communities frequently experience attacks and cattle rustling.

DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed that the attackers were the same bandits who later struck in Kebbe Local Government Area, using tactics to create panic among residents.
