Bandit Attack in Sokoto Leaves Four Soldiers Feared Dead

On the morning of the attack, bandits arrived in large numbers around 10 am in Sokoto, reportedly on over 200 motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons. They looted shops, stealing mobile phones, food items, and petrol, and attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters and a general hospital, where they destroyed the vehicle of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

During a confrontation at a military base on the outskirts of the town, three soldiers were killed, and a fourth soldier, who was injured and evacuated to the hospital, later died. A security source indicated that the bandits were believed to have originated from Bukuyyum in neighboring Zamfara State and were heading towards Kebbi State.

The attack resulted in the destruction of military patrol vehicles and the DPO's vehicle. Additional troops and an Air Force jet have been deployed to the area, and the General Officer Commanding of the 8 Division visited the town to assess the situation.
