Edo Police Investigate N1m Extortion Allegations Against Officers

The Edo Police Command, led by Daaor, has initiated a probe into allegations of extortion amounting to N1 million by officers from the Okpella Police Division. A viral video on social media claimed that these officers arrested several young men, falsely accusing them of cultism and demanding the sum for their release.

Daaor, through a statement from the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to determine the officers' culpability. The identified officers have been summoned to the Command Headquarters in Benin City for appropriate disciplinary measures.

The command has also invited the alleged victims to present their accounts to the investigating team. Daaor reiterated the command's serious stance on police misconduct, stating that any officer found guilty would face decisive action in accordance with the law.

He encouraged citizens to report any instances of unprofessional conduct or extortion through the Complaint Response Unit (CRU).
