44 Pupils and Teachers Rescued in Oyo Security Operation

On May 15, 2026, a joint security operation in Oyo State led to the rescue of 44 kidnapped pupils and teachers. The operation was the result of a month-long intelligence-driven effort involving the Nigerian Army, the National Counter Terror Centre, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante groups like Amotekun.

Major General Chibuez Raphael Nnebeif, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, oversaw the operation, which aimed to identify and dismantle the terrorist network responsible for the abductions. The operation was meticulously planned to ensure the safe recovery of the victims while minimizing collateral damage.

Although some security personnel were injured during the mission, the rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde were acknowledged for their support throughout the operation, which also resulted in multiple arrests and ongoing efforts to track down remaining members of the criminal network.
