Nigerian Army Rescues 44 Abducted Pupils and Teachers

The Nigerian Army announced the successful rescue of 44 abducted pupils and teachers from Oriir Local Government Area in Oyo State. The operation, which took place following sustained intelligence efforts, was coordinated by Major General C.R.

Nnebeif and involved various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, and local vigilante groups like Amotekun. Lt.

Col. Danjuma Jonah, spokesperson for the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, confirmed that the operation targeted a kidnapping network operating from the Old Oyo National Park.

The operation led to multiple arrests and dismantled the kidnappers' network. The victims received medical attention and will be reunited with their families.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde expressed gratitude for the operation's success, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized the federal government's delayed response to the abduction. The Nigerian Army emphasized careful planning to avoid collateral damage during the rescue.
