47 Arrested for Environmental Sanitation Violations in Nasarawa

In Nasarawa, 47 individuals were arrested for violating environmental sanitation regulations, specifically for operating during designated sanitation hours, which contravenes Section 9(3) of the Nasarawa State Environmental Law, 2020. Dr.

Abubakar Muhammad, the Chief Prosecuting Officer, reported that 29 Keke Napep were impounded on Jos Road, while 9 others were arrested on Makurdi Road. These defaulters have been brought before a Mobile court to face legal action.

Muhammad emphasized that the period of sensitization has ended, and the focus is now on strict enforcement to maintain cleanliness in the state. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to ensure property owners comply with drainage clearance mandates as per Section 13 of the law.

Last week, 16 individuals were arrested for failing to desilt drainages. Compliance among shop owners has reportedly improved, although challenges remain with Keke Napep operators.

Enforcement actions will persist throughout the rainy season to promote a cleaner Nasarawa State.
